Stereo - Robo Wars (ski graphic)

Client: STEREO

Services: Illustration

Description:
Concept and illustration to be used as product graphics on Stereo's wakeskis.

The robo war concept came up in a brainstorming when we were designing the 2010 line for Stereo Skis (pioneering twin tip skiing on water).

The concept was first communicated through a 30 second sketch, and after a couple of rounds of more detailed sketches, we landed on a composition for the ski graphics.

The process went on to hand drawn finalized illustration elements, that were all put together digitally and colored. Drawing the graphics as separate elements rather than one single illustration simplified operations like replacing the head with a new one on request from the client. The only elements that are not hand drawn, are the tanks, which we modeled in 3d and rendered using Cinema 4d - simply to save some time where we could.

We designed 2 models in 2010. This is the most hard core one for parks and rails. We made the standard model a lot more graphic and clean. The target audience is very split on their preference between the two models, and that's all good as long as they both get a design that matches their preference in style.
